October presented the Digital Media Services crew with a great variety of projects. Sean Deren shot brochure and Website photography for Atlantic Docks, photographed NFL stars Simeon Rice and Cato June for Stemulite’s next national advertising campaign and worked with Brian Satchfield on product photography for the Tye Maner Group. Brian also installed some new home theater systems that included high definition Blu-ray players  and attended the informative Tampa Bay Film and Entertainment Industry Summit presented by the St. Pete and Tampa film commissions. Robert Kildoo accompanied Brian at the summit and also joined Vince Mann working on photography projects for Publix and Atlantic Recording artist Plies. Vince also had a major role in assisting with set assembly for the new Tampa Bay History Center and produced a photo shoot for Bahama Breeze restaurants. And more great projects are planned for November!

Clear Choice Windows and More

Clear Choice Windows and More is the largest factory-direct dealer of the premier Simonton Stormbreaker Plus line of windows on the West coast of Florida. They are definitely the go-to guys when it comes to hurricane protection. Brian Satchfield and Vince Mann recently produced an informative sales video and a 30-second TV commercial for Clear Choice and Sean Deren shot some promotional photography for them. A formula for successful advertising

Creating effective advertising can be a complex process. With so many creative choices, placement opportunities and constituents to satisfy, no single technique can fulfill every need. But there’s an ad development method we at DMS try to stick with that always seems to get us in the right ballpark; we call it the What-Who-How method.


It’s really quite simple: first determine what your message is, then determine who you need to say it to and then determine how best to deliver it. Pretty straightforward, right? The trick is in sticking to it.


We marketing pros often come up with really great copy we can’t wait to use, cool color combinations we like, new technologies we just have to try and so on. But we have to remember that these things come secondary to meeting the needs of the ad campaign. Writing a really catchy radio spot with a fabulous custom score for a client whose customers mainly read the newspaper isn’t practicing good advertising techniques. Neither is creating a video podcast for those who may be technically challenged. Always keep your target audience in mind. Find out who they are and put yourself in their shoes. This will keep you on track in creating advertising that speaks to them and, in turn, is effective for you.

RGB and CMYK color spaces

Most of us in media-related industries are familiar with the terms RGB and CMYK; some of us may be a little too familiar. But for those wanting a little more information, or for those who’d like a basic refresher, we offer this tech tip on color spaces.


RGB and CMYK are the two main color space systems we work with in video, photography, online publishing and printing. RGB represents the Red, Green and Blue color space, which is considered an additive color system since different colors are created by adding varying amounts of the three primary colors. Hardware that produces or responds to colored light such as a computer monitor, a television, a digital camera, a scanner or a projector use the RGB system. 100% levels of red, green and blue create white light; black is created from 0% levels of RGB. Varying intensities of each primary hue create the spectrum of colors.


CMYK represents the Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and BlacK (or Key) color space and is a subtractive system. CMYK is used in the printing industry and  different hues are created by subtracting shades of color from the white paper that ink is printed on. While a few color variations can be made by mixing the C,M and Y color inks, most colors are created using offset printing, in which miniscule dots of various intensity and color inks are printed around miniscule spaces of white paper; the reflected light then enters our eyes as a blend of the inks and white paper, forming a various composited colors.
